Christian Education
christianeducation@oldfirstchurchhuntington.org
The Christian Education Committee meets after worship on the second Sunday of each month. Our primary concern is the youth and the Church School. A Youth Council has been established to develop and to oversee programs suitable for our young people.
Our mission is to provide an environment where children learn, grow and develop a strong faith as well as a lifelong appreciation for their church and its members. Volunteers are always needed to serve as church school teachers, child care assistants, and Vacation Bible School helpers If you would like to volunteer or if you have a question regarding the Christian Education Committee please contact the committee through the church office at 631.427.2101 or e-mail Christian Education. Adult education programs including Bible Study and an OFC Book Group also meet on a regular basis.
Fellowship
fellowship@oldfirstchurchhuntington.org
The goal of the Fellowship Committee is to bring together Old First Church congregants, family, friends and members of the community in a social and welcoming atmosphere of Christian Fellowship.
We work with other church committees and OFC groups to organize events. These have included a game night, a Trash or Treasure Antiques Roadshow and light suppers.
Please contact us if you would like to be part of our committee. We welcome your participation!
Mission /Peacemaking
missionpeacemaking@oldfirstchurchhuntington.org
The Mission/Peacemaking Committee coordinates and interprets the mission activity of Old First Church. This committee designates the benevolences of Old First Church, including the giving to the General Assembly, Synod, the Presbytery of Long Island, PCUSA and other special projects. These funds provide support for programs that offer immediate aid to the suffering, as well as long term assistance for educational, medical, theological and other programs. They also support programs that promote justice and peace for all people and focus on the systemic causes of human problems like malnutrition and poverty. The committee educates the congregation about the needs in our community and about our different partnerships including The Huntington Interfaith Homeless Initiative (HiHi) and our connection to our sister church in Havana, Cuba. The Presbyterian Church’s mission activities are explained through Moments for Mission, Weathervane articles, Bulletin Boards and speakers. The congregation is encouraged to be involved in these ministries so that we may grow in our awareness of our discipleship with all God's people.
Your involvement in this committee and in the mission work of our church offers you an opportunity as our 2008 Mission Yearbook says to see how “the spirit of Christ comes to us in the context of community and we along with the rest of the world are never the same.” (p. 3 – Where Two Or More Are Gathered -2008 Mission Yearbook)
Nominating
nominating@oldfirstchurchhuntington.org
A ten member nominating committee of the church is chosen annually as described in Article 3.Election of Officers of the Bylaws of Old First Church. Every member of the nominating committee shall be a member on the active roll of the church. They prepare a slate of nominees for all of the elected offices of the church.
Outreach/Membership
outreach@oldfirstchurchhuntington.org
The committee identifies ways of sharing with our local area our long history of faith and service as a Presbyterian church. We want to increase our neighbors’ awareness and understanding of our community outreach activities and of our church ministries which provide care and support for members. We also want others to know that as Christians united as a congregation we continue to welcome new members into our church family.
If you can assist us with publicity, have graphic design skills, or are familiar with social networking sites – we need you! Come and help us grow! Just send us your name and contact information.
Worship & Music
worship@oldfirstchurchhuntington.org
The purpose of this committee is to establish and ensure that Worship at Old First Church is meaningful and strengthening to the spiritual journey of members and visitors and to serve as an effective conduit for the Congregation for all matters relating to Worship. To accomplish this, we oversee Sanctuary set up, Music and Concert Event scheduling, Children’s Sermons and the Liturgy (worship assistants). Membership in the Committee is open to all members of the congregation. Other church committees are active and welcome new members. Check the Keep Current Announcements for meeting dates and contact information.
